Album Info:QRNational's main commodity [like most railroads] is coal, and the black diamond of Central Queensland is hualed by QR like it was going out of fashion. To hual the 150 million plus tons a year [and it grows every year] QRN has a large rolling stock fleet. This album will host some of the most common wagon types in active service todate.

Description:  The end of this empty train is made up of about 50 VNSQB and VNLQB wagons. The letter V stands for 'mineral, ie coal'. The 3rd letter S or L refers to the wagon with the Westinghouse break, as these wagons are built as pairs with draw-bars between them, so only one unit has the full set of breake gear while the other just has hoses connecting it. [L is leader, with Westinghouse break. S is slave]

Description:  Just below the wagon load limit is an 'Out Of Gauge' tag and the 'Redbank Workshops' builders plate. Out Of Gauge tags are placed on all new coal hoppers coming up from Brisbane, as the wagons are too wide to fit through most suburban platforms in the Brisbane commuter network.

Description:  QR rebuilt a number of old VO hoppers into wheigh bridge test cars. These cars have solid roofs so water can't get into the ballast and alter the cars set wheight.

Description:  QR tried an articulated set for coal service to cut down on wagon mass to carry more coal per train, but this unit was the only unit built. This unit was built as a trial unit, but it didn't work out.

Description:  This is what happens when a mine load-out operator doesn't shut off the loading chute. As can be seen, the steel in the end of the wagon has been torn with the whieght of the coal. This sort of thing happens about once a month.
